The False Minnesota Spring 🥾🐾
Minnesota pulled its favorite trick on us this weekend.
You know the one. It’s February, it has no business being warm, but suddenly the sun is out and it’s 50 degrees and you’re lacing up your boots like it’s May. We know better by now. We’ve lived here long enough to know this is a trap. But did we fall for it anyway? Absolutely. Every single time. 🌤️
The river trail that never gets old
We headed to one of our favorite swampy spots along the river. It’s a trail we keep coming back to, the kind of place where you can hear the current before you see it and the path just follows the water wherever it wants to go. Kona and Salsa were out of the car before we even had our gloves on.
The four of us covered almost four miles together. Sun on our faces, air smelling like melting snow and wet earth, dogs in absolute heaven. Tails wagging, noses glued to the ground, splashing through every muddy patch like it was their personal mission. As we like to say around here: muddy paws, happy dogs. 🐾
No agenda, no schedule
There’s a rhythm to days like this that we really love. Just the two of us, our dogs, and whatever the trail decides to show us. We talked, we laughed at Kona doing full belly-flops in the mud, we stopped to watch the river for a while.
These are the kinds of moments that remind us why we love our life here in Minneapolis and why we’re so excited to share it with a kid someday. The trail, the dogs, the random Tuesday hike just because the sun came out. That’s the stuff. ☀️
The dog wash: a non-negotiable
And yes, we absolutely stopped at the dog wash on the way home. Four muddy paws times two dogs equals one very necessary pit stop before anyone was allowed back on the couch. Salsa was not thrilled. Kona acted like it was a spa day. Classic.
Now we’re home, the dogs are snoring on the floor, and we’re enjoying the Olympics. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Not bad at all. 😊
